The Washington Post is one of the most influential daily newspapers in the United States and the world. It was founded in 1877 by Stilson Hutchins in Washington, D.C., and became the first newspaper in the city to publish seven days a week. The publication rose to global prominence during the twentieth century, most notably for its investigative reporting on the Watergate scandal, which led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Historically, the paper was owned by the Graham family through The Washington Post Company (later renamed Graham Holdings Company) for eight decades. In a significant shift for the media industry in 2013, the newspaper and its affiliated publications were purchased by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. Unlike many other media acquisitions, the paper was purchased through an entity called Nash Holdings rather than by Amazon itself.

Today, The Washington Post continues to operate as a premier digital and print news organization. While its physical printing occurs at regional facilities in the United States, its primary operations and headquarters remain in Washington, D.C. Under the ownership of Nash Holdings, the publication has transitioned into a 'media and technology' company, expanding its digital footprint and global reach.
