The Skoda Kushaq is a compact crossover SUV developed specifically for the Indian market as part of the 'India 2.0' project overseen by the Volkswagen Group. Launched in 2021, it was the first vehicle to be built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, a version of the Modular Transverse Toolkit adapted specifically for India to balance European safety standards with local cost requirements.
The Kushaq is manufactured at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) plant in Chakan, Pune. While the brand carries its historic Czech identity, the Kushaq represents a significant shift toward local production, featuring high levels of localization (up to 95%) to stay competitive in the growing South Asian SUV segment.
Ownership of the brand resides with Skoda Auto, a Czech manufacturer with over a century of heritage. However, since the late 20th century, Skoda has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. This corporate structure allows Skoda to leverage global German engineering platforms while maintaining a distinct value-oriented and 'Simply Clever' brand philosophy.
