Wera hand tools

Wera Tools, officially known as Wera Werkzeuge GmbH, is a globally recognized manufacturer of high-quality hand tools, particularly famous for its 'Tool Rebels' brand identity. Founded in 1936 by Hermann Werner in Wuppertal, Germany, the company initially started as a tool trading business. Following World War II, under the leadership of Heinz Amtenbrink, it transitioned into manufacturing, specifically focusing on screwdrivers. The brand name 'Wera' itself is derived from the first few letters of the founders' surnames, Werner and Amtenbrink.

Historically an independent family-owned business, Wera was fully acquired in 2016 by Bitburger Holding GmbH, a diversification of the well-known German brewing family’s investment arm. Despite the change in ownership, the brand remains headquartered in Wuppertal, where its design and engineering teams are based. To maintain its high standards of 'German engineering' while scaling production, Wera relocated a significant portion of its manufacturing to the Czech Republic (specifically Bystřice and Třebíč) in the mid-1990s. While basic components and primary assembly occur in Europe, some specialized parts such as sockets and torque wrenches are also produced through partners in Taiwan.

Wera is highly regarded for its ergonomic innovations, most notably the 'Kraftform' handle design, which was developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute. Today, the brand's portfolio includes over 3,000 products ranging from the 'Joker' wrenches and 'Zyklop' ratchets to complex torque tools and stainless steel variants, serving both professional industrial sectors and high-end DIY enthusiasts.
