Kjeldsberg is a historic Norwegian coffee brand with roots dating back to 1848, when Rasmus Flor Kjeldsberg founded the company in Trondheim. For over 170 years, it has been a significant name in the Norwegian coffee market, known for its slogan "Stor smak fra et lite brenneri" (Big taste from a small roastery). While it began as a family-run trading company, it evolved into a specialized coffee roaster focused on the Scandinavian palate.

Manufacturing and Sourcing

The coffee featured in the image, Kjeldsberg Filtermalt Mørkbrent, is manufactured and roasted in Norway. The raw Arabica beans are sourced globally from certified sustainably managed farms (often carrying the Rainforest Alliance seal) and then processed at the company's dedicated roasting facility in Trondheim. This ensures local control over the blending and roasting profile favored by Norwegian consumers.

Ownership Structure

Currently, Kjeldsberg Kaffe is part of the Reitan Retail group. After decades of growth, the company entered into partnerships with the Reitan family, which eventually led to full ownership. It is now managed as a joint venture where the Reitan family (via Reitan Retail) holds the majority stake. Reitan Retail is one of Norway's largest conglomerates, also owning major retail chains like REMA 1000, where Kjeldsberg products are primarily sold.
