The MINI Countryman is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV that represents a modern evolution of the classic Mini brand, blending British heritage with German engineering. Introduced in 2010, the Countryman was the first model in the Mini lineup to offer five doors and all-wheel drive, catering to a market seeking more practicality without losing the brand's iconic design language.
While the Mini brand is intrinsically British, born from the British Motor Corporation in 1959, the manufacturing and ownership have undergone significant changes. The latest generations of the Countryman are primarily manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany, marking the first time a Mini model has been produced entirely in Germany. Previous generations were also assembled via contract manufacturing by Magna Steyr in Austria and in the Netherlands.
Today, Mini is a premium brand under the ultimate ownership of the BMW Group. Since the acquisition in the 1990s, BMW has successfully revitalized the brand, maintaining its heritage while integrating advanced BMW technology and platforms. This synergy ensures that while the spirit of the Countryman remains British, its performance and build quality are backed by German automotive excellence.
