MG, originally standing for Morris Garages, is a historic British automotive brand with a legacy dating back to the 1920s. Famous for its iconic sports cars and roadsters, the brand underwent various ownership changes through the decades, moving from British Leyland to the Rover Group and later MG Rover.
Following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005, the brand and assets were acquired by Chinese interests. Today, MG is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, one of China's largest state-owned automotive manufacturers. While the brand maintains a design and technical center in Longbridge, Birmingham, the vast majority of its manufacturing has shifted from the United Kingdom to massive, modern production facilities in China, such as those in Ningde and Zhengzhou, as well as satellite plants in Thailand and India to serve global markets.
Now positioned as a leader in affordable electric vehicles (EVs), MG has successfully rebranded itself from a niche sports car maker to a volume manufacturer of SUVs and hatchbacks. The brand is managed in the Nordic region, including Denmark, through designated import partnerships such as Nellemann Group, ensuring a strong presence in the European transition to electric mobility.
