Häagen-Dazs is a globally recognized premium ice cream brand established in 1960 by Reuben and Rose Mattus in the Bronx, New York. Despite its Scandinavian-sounding name, which was invented to suggest an aura of old-world craftsmanship, the brand is purely American in origin.
Today, the brand's manufacturing is strategically decentralized. For the European and many international markets, the products are primarily manufactured in Tilloy-lès-Mofflaines, France. The ownership structure is split: General Mills owns and produces the brand worldwide, while Froneri (a joint venture between Nestlé and PAI Partners) handles the license for the United States and Canada.
