Patak's is a quintessential British-Indian brand that revolutionized the accessibility of Indian cuisine in the United Kingdom and globally. Founded in 1957 by Laxmishanker and Shanta Pathak, the brand began as a small family operation in London after the family arrived as refugees from Kenya with very little money. The business started with the production of samosas and sweets in a family kitchen and eventually expanded into a wide range of curry pastes, sauces, pickles, and chutneys. The 'h' was famously removed from the family name for the brand to ensure easier pronunciation for the British public.

Today, the brand is a global leader in its category, supplying a significant majority of British curry houses and being stocked in major retailers worldwide. While its primary manufacturing facility remains in Leigh, Lancashire, England, its products are manufactured in multiple locations globally to serve over 40 countries. In 2007, the brand was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF), a major international food and retail group, though the Pathak family retained rights to the brand in India. It currently operates under the AB World Foods subsidiary, maintaining its reputation for authentic flavors and heritage.
