Persil is a globally recognized laundry detergent brand with a complex history of ownership. Originally founded in Germany in 1907 by Henkel, the name is derived from two of its original ingredients: perborate and silicate. While Henkel remains the brand owner and manufacturer in much of the world, including Germany and North America, the rights to the brand in the UK, Ireland, France, and parts of Oceania are held by Unilever.
In North America, Henkel re-introduced the Persil brand in 2015 to compete in the premium detergent market. The product shown, Persil Free & Sensitive, is a hypoallergenic formula designed for consumers with skin sensitivities. Manufacturing for the North American market typically takes place in Henkel's production facilities located in the United States and Mexico to serve the regional supply chain.
