Starbucks Pike Place Roast is a signature medium roast coffee named after the brand's original market location in Seattle, Washington. Launched in 2008, it was designed to provide a consistent, smooth everyday coffee experience globally. While the Starbucks brand is fundamentally American, the retail consumer goods side of the business (packaged coffee in grocery stores) is subject to a strategic alliance.
In 2018, Starbucks and Nestlé formed a Global Coffee Alliance. Under this agreement, Nestlé was granted the perpetual rights to market, sell, and distribute Starbucks consumer packaged goods and foodservice products worldwide outside of Starbucks coffee shops. Consequently, while the brand remains owned by Starbucks Corp., the production and distribution of this specific bag of coffee are managed by Nestlé. Manufacturing occurs in various international facilities to serve local markets, including major roasting plants in the United States and Europe.
