Sonho de Valsa is one of Brazil's most iconic confectionery brands, originally launched in 1938 as a bonbon by the company Lacta. Since its creation, it has become a cultural staple in the Brazilian market, known for its distinctive peanut cream filling and wafer shell covered in chocolate.
Lacta, the brand behind the product, was founded in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1912 by a group led by the entrepreneur Zanotta. Over the decades, the company went through several ownership changes, becoming part of Kraft Foods in 1996. Eventually, following the corporate split of Kraft Foods in 2012, Lacta and its sub-brands like Sonho de Valsa became part of Mondelēz International.
Today, the product is primarily manufactured in Brazil, specifically at the Mondelēz production facility in Curitiba, Paraná, which is one of the largest chocolate factories in the world. Mondelēz International, headquartered in Chicago, USA, continues to manage the brand globally, maintaining its status as a market leader in the Latin American snacks and confectionery category.
