Jura is a premium Swiss brand that has become synonymous with high-end, fully automatic coffee machines. Founded in 1931 by Leo Henzirohs in the town of Niederbuchsiten, Switzerland, the company takes its name from the Jura mountain range. While it originally produced a wide array of household appliances like irons and heaters, the brand underwent a major strategic pivot in the mid-1980s to focus exclusively on specialty automatic coffee machines.
Today, Jura is a global leader in the luxury coffee segment. Its manufacturing process is split between two primary European locations. The high-end flagship models, such as the Z-line and the professional GIGA series, are manufactured in Switzerland (specifically by partner Eugster/Frismag in Romanshorn). Mid-range models and compact lines, like the E and ENA series, are typically assembled in Porto, Portugal, while maintaining strict Swiss engineering and quality control standards. Jura remains an independent Swiss corporation owned by the Jura Elektroapparate AG, continuing to operate from its historic headquarters where it also hosts the 'Jura World of Coffee' museum.
