Blokus is an abstract strategy board game originally designed by French mathematician and designer Bernard Tavitian. It was first released in 2000 by the French company Sekkoia. The game received numerous awards for its simple yet deep tactical gameplay, where players attempt to place as many of their polyomino pieces as possible on a grid while following specific placement rules.
In the mid-2000s, the global toy giant Mattel acquired the rights to the Blokus brand. Since then, Mattel has expanded the line to include various versions such as Blokus Duo (pictured), specifically designed for two players. While the brand originated in France, manufacturing is now handled globally, primarily in China and other Asian manufacturing hubs to support Mattel's international distribution networks. The brand remains a core part of Mattel's games portfolio, headquartered in the United States.
