Quaker is one of the world's most recognizable breakfast brands, with a history dating back to 1877 when the Quaker Oats Company was first registered as a trademark in the United States. The brand was founded through a merger of several American oat mills, including those owned by Henry Parsons Crowell and Ferdinand Schumacher.
Today, the brand is a major player in the global cereal market. In Canada, Quaker products are typically manufactured locally, notably at their facility in Peterborough, Ontario, which has been in operation for over a century. However, global supply chains mean that ingredients and specific product lines may also be produced in the United States or other international locations.
Management and ownership of the brand have transitioned over time. In 2001, PepsiCo acquired The Quaker Oats Company. This strategic merger integrated Quaker's healthy image with PepsiCo's vast distribution network. Within Canada, the brand operates under PepsiCo Foods Canada, maintaining a strong domestic presence while being part of a multinational American conglomerate.
