Lumber / Timber

Lumber, or timber, is a diverse commodity produced globally. Unlike branded consumer goods, lumber is sourced from managed forests across the world. The primary producers include Canada, the United States, Russia, China, and various countries within the European Union (such as Sweden, Finland, and Germany) and Brazil.

The industry is characterized by a mix of large multinational forestry corporations and local sawmills. Because lumber is an extracted and processed raw material rather than a single 'brand,' its origin is highly dependent on the geographic location of the forest and the specific mill where the logs were sawn and planed. Logistics and proximity to construction markets usually dictate where specific batches of lumber are sourced.
