Arc'teryx is a high-end Canadian design company specializing in outdoor clothing and climbing gear. Founded in 1989 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, the brand takes its name from the Archaeopteryx Lithographica, the first reptile to develop feathers for flight. Originally known as Rock Solid, the brand pioneered innovative construction techniques such as heat-laminated zippers and micro-seams, setting a global standard for technical performance wear.
While the brand maintains its design headquarters and a high-tech manufacturing facility (ARC'One) in Vancouver, the bulk of its global production is carried out across multiple countries, including China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, to meet worldwide demand.
Historically owned by Amer Sports (which also holds brands like Salomon and Wilson), the ultimate ownership changed significantly in recent years. Amer Sports was acquired by a consortium led by China's Anta Sports in 2019. Consequently, while the brand remains North American in spirit and design, its ultimate corporate parent is now headquartered in China, managed under the Amer Sports umbrella which went public on the NYSE in 2024.
