Costa Coffee was founded in London in 1971 by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa. Over the decades, it grew to become the largest coffeehouse chain in the United Kingdom and one of the most recognizable coffee brands globally. Initially focusing on supplying roasted coffee to local caterers, the brothers opened their first boutique cafe in Vauxhall Bridge Road, London, which laid the foundation for the international retail presence the brand enjoys today.
In 2019, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when The Coca-Cola Company acquired Costa Limited from Whitbread PLC for approximately $4.9 billion. This acquisition allowed Coca-Cola to establish a global coffee platform. Today, Costa products, including and hot chocolates, are manufactured in various locations across Europe and the UK to supply international markets, while the brand remains headquartered in Loudwater, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.
