Ritz Crackers were first introduced by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in the United States in 1934 during the Great Depression. The brand was cleverly marketed as a small luxury that consumers could afford even in tough economic times, named after the famous Ritz Hotel to evoke feelings of high-class sophistication.
Today, Ritz is a globally recognized snack brand. While its roots are American, the crackers are produced in numerous facilities worldwide to serve different regional markets. For instance, products sold in the UK are often manufactured in European facilities, while North American supplies are primarily produced in the US and Mexico.
The brand is currently owned by Mondelēz International, one of the world's largest snack companies. Mondelēz was formed in 2012 following the spin-off of Kraft Foods' North American grocery business. Ritz remains a cornerstone of their global biscuits and snacks portfolio, maintaining its iconic red packaging and circular yellow logo design.
