Hatozaki Small Batch Pure Malt Whisky is produced by the Kaikyo Distillery in Akashi, Japan. The brand is named after the historic Hatozaki lighthouse, the oldest stone lighthouse in the country. The Yonezawa family, who have been brewing and distilling since 1917, established the Kaikyo Distillery to specialize in high-quality spirits.

The production process involves a blend of 100% malt whiskies, aged in several different types of casks including sherry, bourbon, and local Japanese Mizunara oak. While the liquid is blended and aged in Japan, current Japanese labeling regulations (at the time of production) allowed for a mix of imported and domestic malts, though the craftsmanship and finishing are strictly Japanese.

The brand is owned by Akashi-Tai (Yonezawa Shuzo Co., Ltd.) and is distributed internationally by Marussia Beverages. It represents a bridge between traditional Japanese sake-brewing heritage and modern whisky distillation techniques.
