Old Spice is an iconic American brand that was originally founded in 1937 by William Lightfoot Schultz through his company, Shulton Inc. Interestingly, the brand's first product was a fragrance for women called 'Early American Old Spice,' but it was the men's line, launched in 1938 with its signature nautical-themed packaging and masculine scent, that became a global phenomenon. The brand's identity has long been tied to colonial sailing ships, which reflected the founder's interest in the early Americana aesthetic of that era.
In June 1990, the consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) acquired the Old Spice brand from Shulton. Since the acquisition, P&G has modernized the brand's image and expanded its product portfolio to include various grooming essentials like body washes and deodorants. In India, the product is manufactured locally by Procter & Gamble Home Products Private Ltd. at their facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, or through third-party partners such as Rubicon Formulations in Maharashtra, ensuring it meets the specific grooming needs of the Indian market while maintaining its heritage as a global authority in men's care.
