Hopia is a popular bean-filled pastry that holds a significant place in the culinary heritage of the Philippines and Indonesia. Originally introduced by Hokkien immigrants from Southern China during the early 20th century, the name literally translates to 'good pastry' in Hokkien. It has since become a staple snack and a favorite gift (pasalubong) in Filipino culture.

While the pastry has ancient roots in Chinese Fujian cuisine, the modern commercialization and specific styles (such as Hopia Ube or Hopia Baboy) were perfected in the Binondo district of Manila. Manufacturing is widely distributed among artisanal bakeries and large-scale industrial food producers across Southeast Asia. Today, it is produced by various independent local brands, with Eng Bee Tin and Tipas being among the most iconic names associated with the product's growth.

Because Hopia is a generic category of pastry rather than a single trademarked brand, ownership varies by manufacturer. Most prominent brands remain family-owned enterprises within the Philippines, maintaining the traditional recipes while expanding into international export markets to serve the global diaspora.
