Nordea is the largest financial services group in the Nordic region and one of the largest banks in Europe. The brand emerged through a complex series of mergers involving Merita Bank, Nordbanken, Unibank, and Kreditkassen, effectively consolidating major retail banking operations across Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.

After operating for many years with its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, Nordea moved its corporate headquarters to Helsinki, Finland in 2018 to fall under the direct supervision of the European Central Bank. Today, the company is a public limited company listed on several stock exchanges, with a diverse international ownership base. It provides a wide array of services including personal banking, commercial banking, and wealth management across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
