Chef is a quintessentially Irish brand that has been a staple in kitchens across the island since its establishment in 1921. Known for its signature "tangy" flavor, the brand was originally founded by the company Willwoods, which began producing vinegars and sauces in Dublin. For nearly a century, Chef has maintained a loyal following in Ireland, often positioned as the primary local alternative to global brands like Heinz.

After a period where production was moved abroad, the brand's manufacturing was brought back to Ireland in 2015 following a major investment by the Valeo Foods Group. Today, Chef Tomato Ketchup is proudly produced in Cabra, County Dublin. The brand has evolved while keeping its iconic branding, including the classic chef character on the label, and remains one of the most recognized ambient food brands in the Irish market.

In terms of ownership, Chef is currently part of the Valeo Foods portfolio. Valeo Foods was established in 2010 through the merger of Batchelors and Origin Foods and has since grown into a major international consumer foods company. Since 2021, Valeo Foods has been owned by the global investment firm Bain Capital, though it continues to operate with a strong focus on its Irish heritage and manufacturing base.
