Kettle Brand Potato Chips: Origins and Ownership

Kettle Brand (often referred to simply as Kettle) was founded in 1978 in Salem, Oregon, USA, by Cameron Healy. Originally starting as N.S. Khalsa Company, the brand became a pioneer in the 'kettle-cooked' chip industry, focusing on natural ingredients and traditional cooking methods. Over the decades, it has become one of the most recognized premium snack brands globally, known for its distinct crunch and authentic flavor profiles such as Sea Salt.

While the brand originated as an independent venture in the Pacific Northwest, it has undergone several high-profile ownership changes. In 2010, Diamond Foods acquired Kettle Foods from the private equity firm Lion Capital. Later, in 2016, Snyder's-Lance acquired Diamond Foods. The progression of ownership culminated in 2018 when the food giant Campbell Soup Company acquired Snyder's-Lance, bringing Kettle Brand into its extensive portfolio of classic American food products.

Manufacturing and Distribution

Kettle Brand chips are manufactured primarily in the United States, with major facilities located in Salem, Oregon, and Beloit, Wisconsin. To serve the European market, the brand also maintains a manufacturing presence in the United Kingdom (Norwich). The packaging shown indicates the brand maintains its historic roots with a distribution address in Salem, Oregon, despite now operating as a major subsidiary of the Campbell Soup Company.
