Burger King is a global fast-food brand that originated in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1953 as Insta-Burger King. Following financial difficulties, it was purchased by David Edgerton and James McLamore in 1954 and renamed Burger King. The brand is famous for its flame-grilled burgers and its flagship product, the Whopper.
Today, the brand operates as a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), a Canadian-American multinational fast food holding company. RBI was formed in 2014 through the merger of Burger King and Tim Hortons, and later expanded to include Popeyes and Firehouse Subs. While the brand is headquartered in Miami, Florida, its ultimate parent company is based in Toronto, Canada.
Because Burger King operates on a franchise model across more than 100 countries, its products are manufactured and sourced from multiple locations. Ingredients like beef, poultry, and produce are typically sourced from local or regional suppliers in the countries where the restaurants operate to ensure freshness and comply with local food standards.
