Starlink Satellite Internet

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, providing high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe. The project was first announced in 2015, with the first prototype satellites launched in 2018. It revolutionized the telecommunications industry by utilizing a low Earth orbit (LEO) to deliver connectivity to remote and rural areas where traditional cable or fiber infrastructure is unavailable.

The hardware, including the phased-array antenna (often called 'Dishy McFlatface' in its initial iterations) and the proprietary routers, is primarily manufactured in the United States. SpaceX operates a dedicated high-volume manufacturing facility in Bastrop, Texas, alongside its engineering and production hubs in Redmond, Washington. This vertical integration allows the company to rapidly iterate on hardware versions and maintain tight control over the supply chain and deployment schedule.

Starlink remains a division of SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.), a private aerospace company founded by Elon Musk. Unlike many other global telecommunications brands, Starlink has not been spun off into a separate entity or sold to a conglomerate; it is fully integrated into SpaceX’s broader mission of space exploration and satellite deployment.
