It was founded in 2010 by Jean Valvis, a Swiss-Greek businessman with a long history in the Romanian beverage industry. The water is sourced from protected springs (Paltinis and Bajenaru) known for being naturally nitrate-free and naturally sparkling due to volcanic activity in the region.

While the brand was founded by Valvis Holding, it reached a significant milestone in 2022 when PepsiCo entered into a strategic partnership, acquiring a 20% minority stake in the company. This deal granted PepsiCo the distribution rights for the water in Romania and Poland, with plans to expand its presence in international markets including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Today, AQUA Carpatica remains a symbol of Romanian natural resources, maintaining its production and bottling facilities within Romania to preserve the purity of the source. The brand is managed through Carpathian Springs SA, which continues to operate as the primary entity under the overarching ownership structure involving Valvis Holding and PepsiCo.
