Green Mountain Coffee Roasters began its journey in 1981 in Waitsfield, Vermont, as a small specialty coffee shop. Over the decades, it transformed into a powerhouse within the beverage industry, largely due to its early adoption of the Keurig single-serve brewing system. The brand is celebrated for its commitment to responsibly sourced beans and its pioneering role in making premium coffee accessible for home brewing via K-Cup technology.
Today, the brand's manufacturing footprint is expansive, with major roasting and packaging facilities located throughout the United States, including Vermont, Tennessee, and Virginia. This ensures a steady supply of fresh coffee to North American markets. The company maintains strict quality control measures to uphold the reputation built during its early days in the Green Mountains.
In terms of ownership, Green Mountain underwent a major transformation when it merged to become Keurig Green Mountain, which was subsequently acquired by JAB Holding Company in 2016. In 2018, it merged with Dr Pepper Snapple Group to form Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP). As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, Keurig Dr Pepper remains the ultimate owner, standing as a leading coffee and beverage company in North America with a diverse portfolio of iconic brands.
