It was founded in 1957 by Laxmishanker Pathak in London, UK, after the family migrated from Kenya. The brand played a pivotal role in popularizing Indian cuisine across British households, growing from a small local shop into a global leader in ethnic food products.

Today, Patak's is manufactured primarily in the United Kingdom, specifically at its main facility in Leigh, Greater Manchester. While the brand maintains its British heritage, it distributes products to over 40 countries worldwide. The brand is famous for its authentic spice blends and traditional recipes that have been scaled for mass-market consumption without losing their authentic profile.

In 2007, the Pathak family sold the business to Associated British Foods (ABF). Under ABF’s ownership, Patak's has continued to expand its product line and international reach as part of the group's global grocery division. ABF, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in London, oversees the brand's strategic growth and ensures its integration into global supply chains.
