Elegê is a traditional Brazilian dairy brand originally founded in 1959 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It started as a regional cooperative and grew to become one of the most recognized dairy names in the country, known for its iconic branding featuring a milkmaid.
Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes, reflecting the consolidation of the Brazilian food industry. In 2011, it was acquired by BRF (Brasil Foods) and later became part of Lactalis, a French multinational dairy products corporation. Today, Elegê is a flagship brand of the Lactalis Group in Brazil. Its products, including UHT milk, yogurt, and butter, are primarily manufactured in several industrial units across various Brazilian states, sourcing milk from a vast network of local producers.
