Soreen is an iconic British food heritage brand famous for its unique, squidgy Malt Loaf. The product was originally created in 1938 by John Rahbek Sorensen in Manchester, England. For over 85 years, it has been a staple in British households, recognized for its dark, chewy texture and nutritional profile, often marketed as a healthier alternative to traditional cakes and biscuits.
The production of Soreen continues to be centered in the United Kingdom, specifically at its manufacturing facility in Manchester. While the classic malt loaf remains the flagship product, the brand has expanded its portfolio to include lunchbox loaves, protein bars, and fruit loaves to cater to modern snacking trends. This localized manufacturing ensures that the traditional baking process, which involves a specific ripening stage, is maintained to preserve the product's signature texture.
Following its initial success under Sorensen, the brand passed through several hands, including Warburtons and the Inter Link Foods Group. In 2014, Soreen was acquired by Samworth Brothers, a long-established British family-owned business. Samworth Brothers, headquartered in Leicestershire, is a major player in the UK food industry, owning various prominent brands like Ginsters. Under their stewardship, Soreen has seen significant growth and innovation in the convenience food sector while remaining a quintessentially British brand.
