Sandoz is a global leader in generic and biosimilar pharmaceuticals. Mycophenolate Mofetil is a prescription immunosuppressant drug used primarily to prevent organ rejection after transplants. The Sandoz brand has historical roots dating back to 1886 in Switzerland, where it was founded as Kern & Sandoz.
Throughout the 20th century, Sandoz became a pharmaceutical giant, famously merging with Ciba-Geigy in 1996 to form Novartis. However, in October 2023, Sandoz was successfully spun off from Novartis to become an independent, publicly traded company. Its manufacturing network is vast, utilizing facilities across Europe (notably Austria, Germany, and Slovenia), North America, and Asia to supply global markets. As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, Sandoz Group AG operates as its own ultimate owner, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, focusing exclusively on expanding access to affordable off-patent medicines.
