Paterson's Royal Edinburgh is a classic Scottish shortbread brand with a history dating back to 1895. Founded by John and Marie Paterson in the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen, Scotland, the company began as a small home-baking operation before expanding into one of Britain's most beloved biscuit brands.

The product remains a proudly Scottish export, primarily manufactured at the brand's facility in Livingston, West Lothian. The brand is celebrated for using simple, traditional recipes that adhere to classic shortbread standards, often featuring the distinctive 'fingers' shape and tartan-inspired packaging.

In terms of ownership, Paterson Arran was acquired in 2019 by Burton's Biscuit Company. Burton's was subsequently acquired in 2021 by a Ferrero-related company. Today, the brand sits within the CTH Invest portfolio, which is the investment vehicle owned by Giovanni Ferrero, the executive chairman of the Italian global confectionery giant, Ferrero Group. While it is under international ownership, the production and heritage remain firmly rooted in Scotland.
