Belvas is a pioneering Belgian chocolatier renowned for being the first organic chocolate maker in Europe. Founded in 2005 by Thierry Noesen, the brand's name is a portmanteau of "Belgium" and "Value Added for the South" (VAS), reflecting its core mission to support cocoa farmers in the Global South.
The Flaked Truffles are manufactured at the company's eco-friendly production facility in Ghislenghien, Belgium. Belvas operates on a model of radical transparency and sustainability, using ingredients sourced through Fairtrade partnerships in countries like Peru and the Ivory Coast. In a unique move for the industry, many of the cocoa-growing cooperatives Belvas partners with actually hold an ownership stake in the company.
Ownership of the brand remains independent and mission-driven. It is primarily owned by its founder, Thierry Noesen, alongside cooperative partners. The company is famous for its "green" factory, which utilizes solar energy and traditional, chemical-free processing methods to produce luxury chocolates that are both organic and ethically traded.
