Tayto is a legendary Irish snack brand, founded in 1954 by Joe 'Spud' Murphy in Dublin. It is often credited with inventing the world's first seasoned potato crisp, specifically the iconic Cheese & Onion flavor which revolutionized the snack industry globally.
The product is famously manufactured in Ashbourne, County Meath, Ireland, at a facility that also includes the popular Tayto Park theme park (now known as Emerald Park). The brand's mascot, Mr. Tayto, is a cultural icon in Ireland.
While the brand was originally independent, it was acquired by C&C Group in 2006 and subsequently sold to the German multinational snack food company Intersnack in 2010. Today, Tayto (Republic of Ireland) remains a dominant force in the Irish market under the Tayto Snacks subsidiary of the Intersnack Group. Note that a separate company with the same name operates in Northern Ireland, though they are distinct entities with different ownership histories.
