The brand was originally established in 1961 by the Danish company Dansk Salt, a subsidiary of the Odense Marcipanfabrik. It eventually evolved into the leading brand for chips and snacks in the Danish market, known for its distinctive logo and large variety of flavors.

Today, KiMs in Denmark is owned by Orkla, a major Norwegian conglomerate that acquired the brand in 1991. The products are primarily manufactured at their production facility in Søndersø on the island of Funen, Denmark. This local manufacturing ensures the brand maintains its cultural connection and quality standards that Danish consumers have relied on for decades. Although the ‘KiMs’ name is also used for a separate snack brand in Norway (also owned by Orkla), the Danish operation maintains its own unique product recipes and production lines.
