Penguin biscuits are a famous British confectionery classic, first introduced to the UK market by William McDonald in Glasgow in 1932. The product consists of a chocolate cream-filled biscuit covered in milk chocolate. For decades, it has been a staple in British lunchboxes, famously known for the jokes printed on the back of each individual wrapper.

The brand passed into the hands of McVitie's (United Biscuits) and has since become one of the most recognized snack brands in the British Isles. While McVitie's has historically been a British company based in Hayes, the ownership structure has evolved through international acquisitions.

Today, the brand is owned by pladis Global, which was established in 2016. pladis is the global snacking subsidiary of the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding. While the brand maintains its British identity and is primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom (at the Harlesden bakery in London), its ultimate ownership rests with the Turkish-based parent company, reflecting the globalization of the consumer goods market.
