Gorenje is a well-known brand of household appliances that originated in Slovenia. Founded in 1950 in the village of Gorenje, the company initially produced agricultural machinery before transitioning to household stoves and appliances. Over decades, it became one of the largest appliance manufacturers in Europe, recognized for combining technology with high-quality design, often collaborating with famous designers like Philippe Starck.
In 2018, the brand underwent a significant transition in ownership. After a takeover bid, the Chinese multinational electronics manufacturer Hisense Group acquired a majority stake in Gorenje. Today, while the brand maintains its historical identity and significant manufacturing presence in Slovenia (specifically in Velenje), its ultimate ownership belongs to Hisense, with global headquarters in Qingdao, China. This acquisition allowed the brand to expand its reach and research capabilities as part of a larger global conglomerate.
