The Golden Retriever is a popular breed of dog originating from Scotland in the mid-19th century. Developed mainly by Dudley Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth, at his estate in Guisachan, the breed was created by crossing the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel with a yellow-colored Retriever. They were bred to be superior gundogs capable of retrieving game from both land and water.
Today, Golden Retrievers are among the most beloved family pets globally due to their gentle temperament, intelligence, and versatility as service dogs. While the breed is defined by international kennel clubs, individual dogs are raised by breeders worldwide rather than 'manufactured' by a corporate entity. They are not a commercial product owned by a company but are a recognized biological breed managed by various international kennel clubs and breed registries.
