Tanoshi is a popular French brand that specializes in Japanese-inspired cuisine, specifically pre-cooked noodles and sushi kits designed for home consumption. While the brand is heavily marketed to French consumers, the product shown—chicken teriyaki ramen—is manufactured in Japan, ensuring an authentic taste and quality consistent with traditional ramen production. This dual identity allows the brand to bridge the gap between European grocery standards and East Asian culinary traditions.
The Tanoshi brand was originally created by the French company Bjorg et Compagnie (formerly Distrivet), which has long been a leader in organic and ethnic foods in France. Since 2000, Bjorg et Compagnie has been a subsidiary of the Dutch holding company Ecotone (formerly Wessanen). Ecotone is a major player in the European health and ethnic food market, focusing on sustainable and biodiversity-friendly food systems. Currently, the brand remains under the Ecotone umbrella, which is headquartered in Lyon, France, following the relocation of its corporate center to align with its largest markets.
