Waterpik is a pioneering brand in oral health, best known for inventing the water flosser. The brand originated in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, in 1962, following a collaboration between hydraulic engineer John Mattingly and dentist Gerald Moyer. Their innovation revolutionized dental hygiene by providing a pressurized stream of water to clean between teeth and below the gumline.
Today, Waterpik products are engineered and designed in the United States, while the majority of the mass manufacturing takes place in China to facilitate global distribution. This balance of American engineering and international manufacturing allows the brand to maintain high standards while remaining accessible to consumers worldwide.
In terms of ownership, the brand has transitioned through several corporate hands. Originally founded as Aqua Tec Corporation, it was eventually acquired by Church & Dwight Co., Inc. in 2017. Church & Dwight is a major American household products company known for owning other staple brands like Arm & Hammer. They continue to manage Waterpik as a subsidiary within their personal care portfolio.
