Peck's is a heritage brand with a long history in the Australian market, originally founded in London in 1891 by Harry Peck & Co. The company initially gained fame for its potted meats and fish pastes, which were exported across the British Empire. Over the decades, the brand became a staple in Australian households, known for its distinct spreads like Anchovette and Salmon & Lobster.
Ownership of the brand changed hands several times throughout the 20th century. In 1964, Harry Peck & Co was acquired by the Melbray Group, followed by Brooke Bond Oxo in 1970. Eventually, in 2001, the American multinational food giant General Mills purchased the brand. Although Peck's was historically manufactured within Australia for much of its life, production was shifted to France in recent years to leverage General Mills' global manufacturing network. Today, the brand remains a key part of the General Mills Australia portfolio, catering to long-standing consumer preferences for fish-based spreads.
