R.M.Williams is an iconic Australian brand founded in 1932 by Reginald Murray Williams. The company is world-renowned for its handcrafted leather Chelsea boots, specifically the 'Craftsman' model, which has become a symbol of Australian rugged elegance and craftsmanship. Originally designed for the demanding conditions of the Australian outback, the brand's products have evolved into premium lifestyle staples.
The core footwear production remains anchored in its workshop in Salisbury, Adelaide, Australia, where highly skilled artisans perform over 80 manual processes to create a single pair of boots. While the footwear is predominantly made in Australia, some of the brand’s apparel and accessory lines may be sourced from international partners to meet global demand and material specifications.
In terms of ownership, R.M.Williams returned to Australian hands in 2020. After a period of ownership by L Catterton (a private equity firm linked to LVMH), the brand was acquired by Tattarang, the private investment group of Dr. Andrew Forrest AO and Nicola Forrest. This acquisition marked a significant homecoming for the brand, ensuring its continued heritage as an Australian-owned and operated global fashion leader.
