Sudocrem is a globally recognized antiseptic healing cream that was originally developed in Dublin, Ireland, in 1931 by pharmacist Thomas Smith. It was first called 'Smith's Cream' and later renamed 'Soothe Cream' before becoming Sudocrem in 1950. The brand is highly regarded for its effectiveness in treating diaper rash, eczema, bedsores, and various other skin irritations.
While the brand has a deep Irish heritage, its ownership has transitioned through several major pharmaceutical entities over the decades. Following the acquisition of Actavis by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Sudocrem became part of the Teva portfolio. In a significant strategic move in late 2023, Teva reached an agreement to divest its consumer healthcare portfolio, including Sudocrem, to Karo Healthcare (backed by EQT). As of 2024 and beyond, the brand is managed under the Karo Healthcare umbrella, expanding its footprint across Europe while maintaining its manufacturing roots in Ireland.
