Café Bustelo is a historic coffee brand rooted in Latin coffee traditions. It was founded by Gregorio Bustelo, a Spanish immigrant who lived in Cuba and Puerto Rico before arriving in East Harlem, New York, in the 1920s. He officially established the brand in 1928, creating a signature dark roast profile that became a staple in Hispanic communities across the United States.
Starting as a local New York favorite, the brand gained national recognition for its vibrant yellow packaging and accessibility. Following its long history as a family-run and later independent brand, it was acquired by Rowland Coffee Roasters, which was eventually purchased by the J.M. Smucker Company in 2011. Today, Café Bustelo is managed under the Smucker's portfolio. Its coffee beans are sourced internationally, and while packaging often occurs in the United States, the product is distributed globally.
