Rizla is one of the world's most historic brands in the tobacco accessories industry, tracing its heritage back to 16th-century France. The brand name stems from 'Riz' (the French word for rice, which was used to make the paper) and 'La+' (representing the Lacroix family who founded the company). In 1796, Napoleon granted the Lacroix family a license to produce paper for his troops, marking a significant milestone in their commercial history.
Over the centuries, Rizla pioneered several innovations including the first flavored papers and the introduction of wire-stitching for paper pads. While its origins are deeply rooted in France, the brand became a global leader in the rolling paper market. Today, manufacturing is primarily focused in specialized facilities in Belgium. Since 1997, the brand has been under the ownership of Imperial Brands, a British multinational tobacco company, which has integrated Rizla into its global portfolio of smoking products.
