Best Foods Mayonnaise is one of the most recognizable condiment brands in North America and beyond. The brand's history began in 1913 when Richard Hellmann began selling his signature mayonnaise recipe in New York. Parallel to this, on the West Coast, the Best Foods company developed its own popular mayonnaise. In 1932, Best Foods acquired Hellmann's, and while the two brands retained their separate names to maintain regional customer loyalty, their recipes and branding became virtually identical over time.
Today, the brand serves as the counterpart to Hellmann's specifically in West of the Rocky Mountains, Mexico, and portions of Southeast Asia and Australia. It is manufactured in various facilities globally to meet local market demands, ensuring the product remains fresh and accessible. Over a century after its founding, it remains a staple in households for sandwiches, salads, and dressings.
Under the ownership of a major multinational corporation, Best Foods continues to innovate with various product lines, including vegan and light versions of the traditional mayonnaise. The brand focuses on sustainable sourcing of ingredients like cage-free eggs and responsibly sourced oils to align with modern consumer expectations.
