Milka is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, best known for its iconic lilac packaging and the 'Milka Cow.' Originally founded in Switzerland in 1901 by Philippe Suchard, the brand name is a portmanteau of the German words for its primary ingredients: 'Milch' (milk) and 'Kakao' (cocoa). While it began as a Swiss delicacy, it has grown into a global powerhouse.
Today, the brand is owned by Mondelez International, an American multi-national confectionery and snack food company. Although the brand has Swiss roots, the majority of the production for European markets takes place in Lörrach, Germany, with additional manufacturing facilities located in Austria, Poland, and other international sites to meet global demand.
The Milka Ganze Haselnüsse variety featured in the image combines Alpine milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts, maintaining the tradition of using milk from the Alpine region. Its ownership has transitioned through several corporate hands, including the Suchard-Tobler merger and various Kraft Foods restructurings, eventually landing under the Mondelez umbrella.
