Scholl, also known as Dr. Scholl's in some regions, is a historic brand synonymous with podiatric wellness and foot comfort. The brand was established in Chicago in 1906 by podiatrist William Mathias Scholl, who dedicated his career to developing orthopedic solutions and footwear. For several decades, the brand's ownership was split between North American and international markets, with various multinational corporations managing its operations.
In 2019, the Boston-based private equity firm Yellow Wood Partners acquired the North American rights to Dr. Scholl's from Bayer. In 2021, the firm also completed the acquisition of the international Scholl business from Reckitt Benckiser, which has now reunited the brand globally under a single entity: the Scholl’s Wellness Company. Although the brand has deep American roots, its manufacturing is now distributed across a global supply chain, with major production facilities located in China, as well as several locations across Europe and Asia. The brand continues to lead the market in insoles, skin treatments, and ergonomic footwear aimed at improving foot health.
