This selection of pantry staples features two prominent British brands: Allinson's and Morrisons. Allinson's is a historic name in British milling, founded by Dr. Thomas Allinson in 1892. While the brand originally focused on wholemeal bread and health advocacy, its flour products are currently managed by The Silver Spoon Company, which operates as a subsidiary of British Sugar.
Morrisons, on the other hand, represents a classic British supermarket success story. Founded by William Morrison in 1899 as an egg and butter stall in Bradford, it has grown into one of the 'Big Four' UK grocers. Uniquely among UK retailers, Morrisons maintains its own food manufacturing facilities, often packing products like these flours in its own dedicated bakeries and sites across West Yorkshire to ensure control over quality and provenance. As of the mid-2020s, Morrisons is owned by the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
